– The Argentinian and current No. 14 outclassed Taylor Fritz in the 2019 edition to win the title.
Mexico City, July the 11th.- When the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman (No. 14 ATP) steps into any court, the first thing that stands out for those who havent´t met him is his height with just barely 1.70 meters tall (5.5 feet), when in average tennis player measures more than 1.80 meters (5.9 feet).
So taking that into consideration, Schwartzman next to any tennis player is considered “small”, a word from which derives his nickname “Peque” (spanish meaning small boy or short) as he`s known, born in Buenos Aires in 1992.
In addition to his height, Schwartzman weighs 64 kilograms (141 pounds). Ten kilos less than the average player. Both factors have not prevented him from winning titles, having won 4 already in his career; Istanbul 2016, Rio de Janeiro 2018, Los Cabos 2019 and Buenos Aires 2021.
Diego delivers a good tennis, his driven and disciplined and besides, he has a great connection with the Mexican crowd.
The Argentinian was one of the last two star players to join the open, alongside the Italian Fabio Fognini.
Schwartzman will compete with higher ranked players such as; the Russian Daniil Medvedev (No. 1), Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime (No. 9) and Britain’s Cameron Norrie (No.11).
With the presence of “Peque” and Fognini, the 6th edition of the tournament, will have the participation of it`s last three champions. The Italian Fognini who won in 2018, Schwartzman 2019 and Norrie 2021, current defending champion and reaching Wimbledon`s semifinals.
In addition to Schwartzman, two more Argentinians will also be attending the Open at Los Cabos, Tomas Martín Etcheverry and Facundo Bagnis.
