Australia has become the first great test for tennis players at the beginning of the year. It is, after all, the first Grand Slam of the ATP Tour. Therefore it is a tournament in which everyone wants to participate, since there’s nothing better than to kick off the year with the best motivation.
However, this tournament will also see the reunion of the so-called “fantastic four”. Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, if everything goes well, will be in Melbourne next January. These four have been dominating the biggest tennis events that take place throughout the world for more than a decade, and at the 2018 Australian Open, they would rather not disappoint.
This first Grand Slam could mean that Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, in case of delivering a good performance, will dispute the ATP’s top spot, and cement their place in first and second, where they closed out the year, after an impressive come back.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic (12) and Andy Murray (16) will seek to return to a Grand Slam giving a show of authority, just like the spaniard and the swiss did in 2017. Nole and Andy were hampered by injuries that prevented them from competing in the second part of the season, so Australia will not be a minor issue, which can also serve as a stepping stone to get back in the world Top 10.
Australia will reunite the “fantastic four”, or “Big four” however you wish to call them, and they will elevate a tournament to historic status, so it can boast of bringing together the best in the world, again.
Of course, who will bear the brunt of the pressure, being the current champion, is the swiss Roger Federer. Nonetheless, Murray and Djokovic will surely want to snatch the scepter. Ready for a new “war” between the Fantastic Four?
