  • Daniil Medvedev (No. 1) defeats Miomir Kecmanovic (No. 38) to reach his fourth 2022 final.
  • Defending champion Cameron Norrie (No.12) plays the best match of the tournament so far and advances to the final.

Los Cabos, August 5th, 2022.- The final of this year`s edition has been defined, after world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev defeated Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic (No. 38) in 1 hour and 26 minutes, meanwhile Cameron Norrie (No. 12) did the same in three sets against Felix Auger-Aliassime (No. 9).

The top seeded in Los Cabos lived up to every expectation and will play his fourth final of the year in search of his first title of the season. Medvedev defeated the Serbian, 7-6(0), 6- 1, who had to take the first set to a tie break after breaking the Russian’s serve on one occasion. The only previous meeting between these two had taken place in the last edition of Roland Garros, where the 22-year-old had already lost in straight sets.

As for the second set, the favorite only needed 28 minutes to settle the match, where he scored 12 aces “The most important factor is that I like these balls, I like the hard court. I think today’s match was of a high level. Tomorrow will be key to continue with this level. I have to improve regarding important points”. Felix was more aggressive with Norrie, “I had great preparation in France before coming here. I came here to see what is my real level, I’m happy to be in this position, to be in the final, I want to fight for the title, just positive feelings.”

“Since I came to Acapulco, Mexico has welcomed me, there are only positive things to say, it’s been great. I fell in love with Mexico right away. If I win tomorrow, I will fall in love more than a 100%” concluded in his press conference. The last US Open champion will face the defending champion of Los Cabos, Cameron Norrie, after the Briton defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Despite six aces from the Canadian, in just 44 minutes Norrie won the first set and took advantage of the break he made to Auger-Aliassime with an impressive 94% effectiveness on his first service. For the second set he lost his serve in the second game and immediately broke the No. 9, but it was not enough against the Top 10’s best moment. In the third set Norrie showed that he is going through a much better moment this year and did not give in. The duel ended in 2 hrs. 20 minutes.

“Today he wanted to win more than usual. In the third set he had chances to break me but I managed to hold on. I’m proud of how I handled myself today, especially after losing the second set. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, very similar to the level in Acapulco. The crowd supported me at the end and helped me win the match. My progression this year has been constant, my level has improved,” said the British after his match, who continues to enjoy the great performance he´s been showing in Mexico, where he will be playing his third final
